Hello Fiddlers and Fiddle Fans!
We are excited about plans for World Fiddle Day Toronto 2017!
Our new partnership with the Aga Khan Museum for World Fiddle Day Toronto 2017 allows us to explore an extraordinary venue in Toronto. The space and the grounds are gorgeous and they are offering us a lot of support: Sound Tech, PR, organizational assistance, accessibility and lots of accessible parking, easy TTC access, plus free lunchtime tours of the Ismaili Centre. A beautiful and larger space for our Around the World Jam: Yay! With their help, we are hoping to keep growing and involving more people than ever, both players and audience. But we can’t do it without your support.
Our key philosophy remains the same – to spread knowledge, skills and opportunities to participate in world string traditions to players of all ages and levels in the most accessible way possible.
Here is what is planned for World Fiddle Day Toronto 2017:
- 5 guest fiddlers: Pascal Gemme/Yann Falquet, from Quebec; Kousha Nakhaei, Persian fiddle; DNA: Andrew and Diana Dawydchak: Old Time Canadian Fiddle/Stepdance; Anne Lindsay, Toronto jazz, original music; and Amely Zhou (er hu).
- Two 80-minute Fiddle Workshop slots with Guest artists from 10am to 1pm
- Around the World Fiddle Jam from 2pm – 5pm
- Youth Showcase: 5:30 – 6:30 pm
Eat and enjoy the sounds of some up and coming young talents
- Evening Concert with guest artists from 7pm – 10 pm in the plush seats in the beautiful auditorium at the Aga Khan to highlight their talent.
All of this fiddle fun with a $25 ticket price for any or all parts of the day at the Aga Khan, OR a $60 membership fee to World Fiddle Day Toronto which would include entrance to any and all activities at the Aga Khan, FREE for students of all ages.
For an extra $25 fee, the Aga Khan can provide both lunch and dinner on the day. This is entirely optional. You can bring your own food to consume in the grounds, or go to any of a number of restaurants nearby.
Full Memberships could still be purchased from us, with the usual bound book/cd. (Student members would get the online audio clips accessible with a special code).
The 10 Community Workshops at Long&McQuade’s are still open to all by donation!
Memberships and books will be on sale in February.
We are excited to have been asked by the Aga Khan foundation to partner with them and we are very excited about World Fiddle Day Toronto 2017. We hope you can join us!
