OnTheWater - 007proof


Long&Mquade’s (Clinic space, 935 Bloor St. West) are starting on SUNDAY March 31, followed by further Sunday dates: April 14, 28 and May 12, same time, same space. 1:30 – 4 pm.

This is a chance to get your feet wet in the basics of klezmer music, led by Anne Lederman, Martin Van de Ven, Jessica Deutsch and Lea Kirstein. We will devote each workshop to one rhythm and one tune, learning by ear, with music and mp3s available on the website. We will cover, melody parts, keys/scales, ornamentation, rhythm chord parts, ‘tenor’ parts, and harmonies.

March 31 – Chosidls – medium paced 2/4 tunes: Martin/Anne
April 14   – Horas  – 3/4 tunes somewhat unique to klezmer tradition: Jessica/Anne
April 28   – Turkischers  (like Uskudar): Martin, Lea
May 12    – Bulgars, the fast tunes, great syncopated rhythms: Martin/Anne

Feel free to come to one or all workshops, each one is new. No pre-registration required.
COST: By Donation, $20 suggested.

Deborah Strauss and Jeff Warschauer (more info HERE) will be leading us in workshops all day, from 9:30 – 4:00. We’ll set up for the concert with Jeff and Deborah at 4:30, folowed by the Orchestra, i.e. YOU, playng what you have learned that day, possibly with smaller groups playing what they have learned in the Community Workshops.

COST:     ADULTS:                   $50 for the day (includes the concert) – 9:30 am to 6pm
YOUTH (under 25: $30 for the day (includes the concert) – 9:30 am to 6pm
